Niagara Falls isn't the only natural beauty spot on the face of the region. About 10 minutes north of the falls, the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens is the perfect place to slip away from the tourists and soak in some R&R.

The gardens date back to 1936 and are home to the School of Horticulture, whose students care for the greenery on-site. Stroll through around 40 hectares of soaring trees, winding pathways and meticulously maintained gardens, including a world-famous rose garden which blooms with more than 2,000 sweet-smelling buds.

The arboretum is another highlight of this beautiful green space, housing an impressive collection of ornamental trees and shrubs.

Also located on the grounds of the Niagara Parks Botanical gardens is the Butterfly Conservatory, where thousands of colourful butterflies flit from flower to flower. Entry to the Conservatory is $CAD13.95 for adults and $CAD9.10 for children, not including tax.

An interactive guide is available to download on the Google Play store and features walking tours and audio narratives to guide your stroll throughout the park. From May to mid-October, you can even take advantage of horse and carriage rides from 10:00 to 17:00.

Admission to the gardens is free, but parking is $CAD5.00 if you're driving. There's also free wi-fi in the park if you feel like catching up on work or social media while you get back to nature.
