The Forks is a historic meeting place in Downtown Winnipeg. A pretty green space located at the point where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet, it’s believed that people have been coming to The Forks for over  six thousand years.

Of course things have definitely changed at The Forks throughout history and today the area is home to a year round entertainment district.

There’s no one perfect time to visit The Forks. Each season and time offers something different and unique with various restaurants, museums, shops and even sporting facilities spread out over The Forks’ 5.5 hectares.

In warmer months, catch a river taxi and take a stroll along the river walk on a sunny day. The winter park comes alive in colder months when The Forks is blanketed with snow.

Locals and tourists alike gather for some classic Canadian winter activities including tobogganing, hockey, snowboarding and ice-skating along the longest continuous route along the Red River.

Shopping is another big attraction at The Forks with The Forks Market open year round. The indoor market boasts a variety of vendors selling everything from food and clothing, but also art and crafts from hundreds of Canadian artists.

Get your camera ready and climb the market’s six-storey tower to the viewing platform for a memorable sight of downtown and across the river to the historic French Quarter.

Within walking distance of The Forks Market you’ll also find three of the city’s leading museums. The Winnipeg Railway Museum, Manitoba Children’s Museum and the newest addition, Canadian Museum for Human Rights are all close by.

Yearly there are almost always new additions to The Forks area with a Holocaust Museum also planned for the site.
