Okinawa consists of 49 inhabited islands and many other uninhabited islands, most of these islands are surrounded by stunning coral reefs. Okinawa is also known as the ‘Hawaii of Japan’. To experience it all, the best idea is to go island hopping. Make a stop at Miyako Island, home to some of Japan’s best beaches. With crystal clear water, it is also a great destination to go snorkelling and diving. If you feel more adventurous, you could go river trekking and explore the nature in the surrounding islands. Perhaps you could even go paragliding through the blue skies of Okinawa and enjoy a bird’s eye view of Okinawa in its entirety.
Okinawa was once its own country under the rules of the Ryukyu Kingdom. The unique culture of Okinawa was passed down from the times of the Ryukyu Kingdom. You can explore these aspects of Okinawa in the Ryukyu Village and Shuri Castle. Dating back 1000 years, the castle still exists with only its walls. It’s interesting to see the majestic mortar-less stone building. Another of Okinawa’s popular attractions is the Churaumi Aquarium. One of the largest Aquariums in Japan, it holds thousands of fish and 3 large whale sharks.
