One of Laos’s premier tourist destinations and a UNESCO world heritage site is the city of Luang Prabang. Sitting in the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, Luang Prabang is a place of astonishing beauty. A simple wander around town will show you a mixture of Lao, Dutch and French design and architecture. Luang Prabang is known for its intriguing culture. Learn more by heading to the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre, where you discover the ways of the Hmong and other mountain tribes. Visit some of the 32 gleaming temples, the most prominent of which is the Wat Xieng Thong – The Golden City Temple. Take a look at it all with a bit of local culture on a boat cruise along the Mekong River.
Those that want to grab some scenic views will love Luang Prabang. Climb to the top of Mount Phousi and grab a panoramic view of the town. It’s also a perfect location to watch the sunset. Head south and see the stunning Kuang Sii Waterfalls with opal blue pools of water. Finally before you leave, shop at the local markets and bring a souvenier home. The Phousi Market and Hmong Night Market will definitely have some handicrafts, silverware or paintings that will pique your interest.
