Maximize your April and May 2017 Holidays

20 February 2017

Wowzers! April and May are packed with public holidays. Make the most of the holidays and combine them with weekends for a longer break.

CHING MING FESTIVAL (4 April 2017, Tuesday)

Take one day off work (3rd April) and you can afford a long weekend break. Check out our destination picks for a Ching Ming long weekend.

There's more to Cebu than the city life and gleaming five-star resorts in Mactan. This island needs to be explored! Take a glimpse of the crystal clear water and sandbar in Sumilon Island, witness the majesty of Tumalog Falls or Kawasan Falls, swim with whale sharks in Oslob, or dive in Malapascua Island to witness the elusive hammerhead sharks.

Now is the time to explore the hidden gems in China. If you've been to Beijing, Xian, and Shanghai, why not head to Sichuan? Hug a panda in Chengdu. Or visit the stunning Jiuzhaigou Valley.

EASTER (14-17 April 2017, Friday to Monday)

Maximize the 4-day weekend, or take a couple of days' leave and head somewhere exotic. Check out our suggested destinations for Easter.

The Thais celebrate their New Year (Songkran Festival) on the 13th of April. Why not take a couple of days off work and join the water festival in Bangkok? Then afterward, head to the Southern Coast for some R&R at the beach?

Sheikh Zayed Mosque
If you're looking for a longer holiday, head to Europe this Spring. Combine your Europe getaway with a short stopover in the Middle East. Fly with Etihad and stop over in Abu Dhabi, and take this opportunity to check out the stunning Sheikh Zayed Mosque. Etihad is also offering a 2-for-1 on selected Abu Dhabi excursions.

Spring is the best time to visit the East Coast of Sri Lanka. Whether you're looking to explore the cultural side of the country, or relax (or surf) at the beach, Sri Lanka has everything you need in a holiday.

And if you're looking to detox after a crazy Sevens weekend, check out our detox holiday options.

MAY PUBLIC HOLIDAYS (1 and 3 May 2017, Monday and Wednesday; 30 May 2017, Tuesday)

Combine labor day and Buddha's birthday, take one day off work, and you can have a 5-day holiday. Then at the end of the month, take Monday the 29th off, and once again, you can enjoy some down time at the beach or explore cultural sites around Southeast Asia.  Our suggested destinations for May public holidays include the following:

No matter how many times we've visited Bali, we will never run out of new hotspots to check out. Our latest obsession is chasing waterfalls. Bali is home to some of the most stunning waterfalls in the region and if you don't mind the trek, make sure to check out Sekumpul Waterfall or Banymala Waterfall. But if you're all about casual chill, hang out in Canggu and check out the hip eateries while soaking up the sun.

Tel Aviv
Cathay Pacific has launched a direct flight from Hong Kong to Tel Aviv, making it a lot easier for us to check out this chic city. With its happening beach scene, art galleries and culinary delights, Tel Aviv is becoming one of the latest hip cities to visit. Also, make your way to Jerusalem and immerse yourself in history and culture. Don't forget to check out the Temple Mount, Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the Old City.

Constantly overshadowed by big cities like Tokyo and Osaka, Okinawa is not the first place people think of visiting in Japan. But this series of islands has a lot to offer from picturesque beaches and stunning underwater world to magnificent castles and lush jungles to trek. If you've been to most Southeast Asia beaches and want somewhere different for down time, Okinawa should be your next beach getaway.

When it comes to holidays, the possibilities are endless!
