Nestled in the heart of the rainforest yet still only a 40-minute drive from Langkawi airport, The Datai is the ultimate in relaxing destination resorts.
This Malaysian hideaway features a mix of beach villas with private pools, as well as deluxe guest rooms and rainforest rooms. The rooms boast immaculate classic-yet-contemporary interiors; I was surprised at how big our room was, which further contributed to The Datai’s supremely spacious feel.
The resort has two gorgeous swimming pools, that boast exceptional poolside service – you can even request a magazine or an iPad! Meanwhile, The Datai’s beautiful private beach is mere footsteps away if you fancy a dip in the deep blue, with loungers waiting on the shore for yet more sun-soaked relaxation.
The resort’s restaurants are also excellent, offering a variety of both Asian and Western cuisine, whilst The Beach Club – with its breathtaking views over the Andaman Sea – has some great food options for sharing when you feel like a poolside snack.
To take full advantage of The Datai’s stunning surroundings, the resort’s resident naturalist Irshad offers daily hotel tours to explain the wildlife that lives in the grounds. Sitting by the swimming pool, you can regularly see flying squirrels and monkeys in the trees!
We also took an afternoon excursion to Langkawi cable car, a fantastic experience offering sublime panoramas around the area; the resort arranged this all, with our driver happy to wait for us. There’s also an indulgent spa and 47-hectare golf course on-site, plus the opportunity to take an exclusive bespoke cruise on the Naga Pelangi, a traditional wooden schooner ready to set sail for island adventures.
We definitely found our own little slice of heaven at The Datai – now it’s your turn!
